Wedding season is here, and that means there are so many soon-to-be-newlyweds that are right in the midst of planning. One question I hear all the time from couples is, “Do we really need an engagement session?” To put it simply, my answer is, “YES!” – and here’s why…
1. Think of it as a “wedding day test run”
Another thing I hear all the time – “We’ve never had our photos taken before and we have no idea what we’re doing!” (Sound familiar?!) And that’s a great reason in itself to do an engagement session. You’ll get a feel for what it’s like to be in front of the camera, and your photographer can work with you to make you as comfortable as possible without the pressure of wedding day chaos added to the mix. You’ll get an idea of poses, what you loved and what you didn’t, and how everything is going to flow during the portrait section of your wedding day.
2. Engagement photos make great wedding décor
Whether you’re working on a DIY budget or you’re wanting to add personal touches to your décor, your engagement photos are a perfect decoration to have at your wedding. They can be framed around the room, used in a slideshow, or even turned into a guest book (framed with space around the photo for signing, or printing the photos in an actual book to be signed are great options!).
3. It’s a chance to spend some quality, stress-free time together
Wedding planning is hard. It can easily take over when you’re trying to balance work, your social life, and your wedding to-do list. An engagement session is the perfect chance to just turn it all off for a couple of hours! Choose a location that you feel most comfortable in, and show up ready to relax and enjoy some time snuggling up with your fiancé.
If an engagement session just isn’t in your budget, then that’s totally understandable, but if you can make it work I highly recommend it!
