I know I can speak for all wedding photographers in London, Ontario when I say there is no better feeling than brushing the dust off of your camera as off-season comes to an end… Especially when it’s been combined with another lockdown!
Sara and Kevin’s engagement session at The Old Courthouse was the perfect reason to do just that. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. And the evergreens around Ivey Park combined with the old brick at The Old Courthouse gave such a great backdrop filled with glowy light for days 😍
I asked them about their story, their favourite part about being engaged, and what wedding planning has been like. Here is what they had to say!
How did you meet?
We met at work.
What made you two connect so well in the beginning?
We became friends before we started dating. We spent a lot of time talking, and really getting to know each other.
Who said “I love you” first?
Kevin did!
Who proposed?!
Sara: Kevin proposed. We took a walk up to the top of the hill in McLellan Park in Kitchener. It has a fantastic view of the neighbourhood. Kevin: Luckily I had picked up the ring before everything was locked down. I had to change my plans for proposing a few times, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
What is your secret to a great relationship?
We make it a point to focus on communication, respect, and making sure that we spend time together. It can be very easy to slip into a routine with life gets busy.
What are the 3 best words you would use to describe each other?
Sara: Narrowing it down to 3 is harder than I thought it would be, but I would say kind, funny and loving. Kevin: Sara is caring, smart and beautiful – inside and out.
What has been your favourite part of being engaged?
Kevin: The most memorable moment for me was the look on Sara’s face when she said yes. Sara: Planning the wedding! Every time that Kevin and I agree on something so naturally, it just reminds me how lucky I am.
Favourite place you’ve ever been together?
This is a hard one! Whenever we have a free afternoon we like to get in the car and drive to different places. Sometimes we go looking for a lighthouse (Sara loves lighthouses) and sometimes we like to wander around local shops (pre-COVID of course).
Last TV show you binge-watched together?
The last show that we binge-watched was Big Sky. We both loved it!
What is one thing that has surprised you about planning a wedding?
It has been easier than we thought it would be to plan a wedding during a pandemic. All of our vendors have been fantastic, and have really been helpful navigating the uncertainty of what to do.
What are you looking forward to most after your wedding?
Hopefully we will finish the house renovations!
What are some things on your bucket list together?
We would love to do some travelling whenever it is safe to do that again!
