When I was 18 I worked at a bagel shop that shared a restaurant space with a coffee shop – and that’s where I first met Rachel. We quickly became friends, and to say that there was never a dull moment when we were together is an understatement! We went through so much together in a few short years, before our young adult lives took us in different directions.
Rachel moved to Windsor, met Matt, and the rest is history. They moved out west together, and I couldn’t have been happier when I heard the news that they had gotten engaged – except for when Rachel messaged me and asked me to do their wedding photos!
Christmas was a huge theme throughout their relationship. Aside from being Matt’s favourite holiday, it’s also when he met Rachel and when he proposed, so what better way to plan their dream wedding than with a Christmas theme! They did such an amazing job on every little detail. Willistead Manor, the heritage property where their ceremony was held, was one of the most picturesque homes I have ever been in. It was beautifully decorated with a classic Christmas feel – evergreen garlands, and red and gold decor everywhere. Then, for the reception, a little bit of a fun twist with Elf on the Shelf inspired centre pieces and a hockey net to take shots in to get the newlyweds to kiss.
Through it all, though, the part of the day I will never forget happened at the beginning of the ceremony, after Rachel’s mom had finished walking her down the aisle. Rachel and Matt stood at the altar listening to their officiant, and they couldn’t take their eyes of one another, both smiling from ear to ear. I remember stopping for a second because it hit me – this absolutely stunning, Disney princess of a bride that was standing in front of me, was one of my oldest friends, and I had never seen her look so happy! It would be the first of many times I would have to fight back a few tears that day, but moments like that are what make this job mean so much to me :)
