Boler Mountain Wedding | Caitlin + Ben

Weddings

A Boler Mountain Wedding is always a favourite, and Caitlin and Ben’s wedding reminded us of every reason why!

Ben’s family are long-standing members of the Life is Beautiful Photography family, and we were so excited when we first connected with him and his then-fiancé to talk about working together on their wedding day! Emily and Shannon were there to capture every moment – including some of the most EPIC sunset photos!

Here are some of our favourite moments, with some thoughts from the newlyweds along the way!

Were you nervous or calm and excited while getting ready?

The nerves were definitely there, but overall it was fun, exciting, and just a great atmosphere.

How did your wedding party/family help you in the beginning of the day?

Our wedding party were the stars of the show! From helping to decorate the venue the morning of, to reminding us to eat and breathe once in a while. They kept us in check and on time.

Did you do a first look?

No, we didn’t!

What were your thoughts when you first saw each other?

We didn’t see anyone else but each other in that first moment. Our friends and families disappeared, no one was there but us.

How did you feel when you walked down the aisle?

That is when the realness of it all set in. It was happening, we were about to get married surrounded by those who matter most to us. It was surreal.

What moments of the day will you never forget?

Do we have to pick just one?

When we did our mountain top sunset photos! It was one of the top reasons we chose Boler Mountain, among a large list of other reasons. In that moment there were only five people up there and it was so quiet. After completing an amazing photo session with Emily, we got to have five minutes of just quiet and were able to sit and take it all in. Realizing what we had just done, enjoying the sunset together, and looking down at the wonderful views.

What are you looking forward to most about being married?

We have always joked that getting married was just “sealing the deal” to what we had already established together. After getting married we realized that it meant more than that. We get to be joined together, commit to each other, and learn to grow together in an ever changing world.

How excited were you for the food at the reception? What did you eat?

The food was out of this world! Boler Mountain’s team outdid themselves and blew our minds with how tasty everything was. We served some appetizers while family and wedding party photos were finished. Cauliflower bites, bruschetta, and smoked salmon on a crostini. For dinner we served it family style, giving our guests a bit of variety. Boler served up caesar salad, followed by bruschetta chicken or roasted prime rib, mashed potatoes, and roasted seasonal veggies. For dessert, we had a variety platter with macaroons, chocolate-dipped strawberries, cream puffs, and other small pastries and cakes.

If you have ever been to Boler Mountain for the winter season, you know that their poutine is the best thing to order after a long day on the slopes. They topped the night with the most amazing poutine bar, probably one of the most talked about parts of the night!

What advice would you give to a newly engaged couple?

1. Your photographer is more than just someone taking pictures. They are making memories you will hold for a lifetime and tell stories about to others. Do your research and don’t be afraid of putting a bit more of your budget towards your photographer. I am slightly biased to Life is Beautiful Photography (side note: Ben’s sister was one of our first brides!!) and would have to say that they are the reason our day ran so smoothly, from schedules to communication to just the wonderful team of Sandra and Emily.

2. Tell your catering, or food preparation team, to bring you, your partner, and the wedding party, some appetizers during photos. A great little break for everyone and it refuels you before you continue with the busy day. Also, in general, don’t forget to eat and drink during the day!

3. Take 10-15 minutes of time for just you and your spouse. No guests, vendors, or wedding party – just time to breathe and take it all in.

Did you whisper anything sweet in each other’s ears during the first dance?

We sang along together to the song. Our first dance song, Fix You by Coldplay, is not always seen as a ‘love song’ but it was a very symbolic song to us. Ben is passionate about music, always has been, and it was the first song he ever sang to me when we first met.

What did you love about your vendors?

Where do we even begin?

Life is Beautiful Photography – Between Emily shooting the most amazing photos and memories with her assistant Shannon, and Sandra’s planning, communication, and organization leading up to our wedding. More than we could have ever asked for!

Boler Mountain (venue) – Boler Mountain honestly treated us like royalty the entire time. From the start we were challenged with changing COVID restrictions, they kept us updated throughout the changes and somehow it didn’t feel like we were getting married in a pandemic. The food was out of this world, and our venue coordinator Kim, we swore summoned the sun for us that afternoon after it rained all morning. Let’s not forget the opportunity for sunset photos on top of the mountain!

Schwartzentruber Music Services (DJ) – Our DJ, Grant, knew how to play for the crowd! He agreed to a crazy entrance of our Man of Honour and Best Man. We were able to make some changes with short notice, and he kept the party going til we were danced out.

We would also like to give a shout out to Andrea from Hair by Andrea Nicole, and Sindy for being our MUA. As well as David’s Bridal and Moore’s for helping us to find the perfect outfits for our day. Lastly, Cakes by Bebe for the softest cupcakes and the fluffiest icing, and Roo from Forest of Flowers for creating the most enchanted, flowing bouquet I could have ever asked for!

Without any of these people, our day wouldn’t have been possible.

What are your honeymoon plans?

No plans on the horizon for us but maybe in the future :)

Shoutout to the incredible vendor team that helped make this Boler Mountain Wedding day so perfect!
